Test-to-Release COVID-19 Testing

Returning to the United Kingdom from an international destination now means that unvaccinated travellers are legally required to quarantine for a minimum period of 10 full days passing on their return to the U.K.

The Covid-19 Test-to-Release scheme means that individuals can pay for a private COVID-19 test once 5 full days have passed since they have left a destination not on the travel corridor list. As long as they receive a negative COVID-19 PCR swab test result, they are free to stop self-isolating.

Testing through the NL Clinic means that your results will be delivered efficiently via an accredited UKAS laboratory for COVID-19 PCR testing. This means that we can deliver the results of your COVID-19 PCR swab test either same day or next day by 23:30.

If you choose not to participate in the Test-to-Release scheme you MUST self-isolate for a period of 10 full days.

In order to prepare for the COVID-19 PCR swab test, it is advisable that the following points are followed;

  1. Avoid nasal sprays for a 24 hour period if possible.
  2. Avoid any salty meals or drinking alcohol for 2 hours prior to the test.

The test itself will be carried out by one of our certified testers when being undertaken at the drop-in centre. It consists of a swab the size of a cotton ear bud being inserted into the back of the throat briefly touching the sides at several points. The same swab is then inserted into one of the nostrils to take a nasal sample also.

During the test there may be a gagging sensation whilst taking the throat sample and some slight discomfort during the nasal test, however the whole test should be over in no more than a minute.
